El área metropolitana en el ordenamiento jurídico español

Francisco Toscano Gil
Abstract

This study analyzes the figure of the metropolitan area in the Spanish Law, which defines it as a forced grouping of municipalities, which has important implications for their status, and explains to some extent, the failure of this formula of administrative organization. The metropolitan area is a dispositive local authority, whose existence and definitive configuration is up to the regional government. The failure of metropolitan area can be solved by the use of alternatives legal techniques that were not initially designed for this purpose, but are proving themselves equally useful and effective.
