Abstract

In Italy, the Province, similarly to Spain, is a local entity that is constitutionally entrenched and composed by the aggrupation of adjacent towns. For the past years, the Province has been one of the local entities to develop more. It has notably increased its political powers, administrative tasks and its political-representative nature. However, the Province does not have a guaranteed future. Nowadays, there is a growing number of Bills aiming at the restriction or suppression of the Province instead of developing its potential under the Spanish constitutional framework. The suppression of the province in Italy is a precedent not to be ignored in Spain. In this context, the analysis of the situation in Italy can be very useful and inspiring.
