Smart cities and environmental protection

This article starts from the analysis of the concept of a smart city and then it addresses the study of data as a factual basis of this city model and its main problems. Afterwards, the article focuses on the different areas of environmental protection that are being monitored and controlled in most smart cities, such as water and air quality, noise and light pollution, waste management and urban mobility. After analyzing the impact of the smart city on the protection of the environment, the article analyzes how the data and knowledge gained in this city model can be used in making administrative decisions, addressing the example of technological urbanism as a method of environmentally sustainable urban design. Finally, a series of considerations will be made as a conclusion.
