Collective Self-Consumption: much more beyond the ceilings

The energy transition, in addition to the decarbonization of the energy sector, establishes as a second objective the setting-up of a new energy model where new players –as the collective self-consumption or the energy communities– emerge. In this way, self-consumption becomes a new tool of the system, so that consumers, through different formulas, can generate and exchange their energy in the market. The new model is gaining recognition in the legal framework, but further developments are necessary to be able to develop its full potential. Meanwhile, an accelerated deployment of large plants addressed to decarbonization goals is taking place, although according to the old centralized model and competing with the new one in terms of occupation of physical space or network capacity. At this time, it would also be convenient to speed up the normal operation of the New Model, for which an adjustment is required in quite a lot of areas of the legal system.
